What is a condo? Condo vs apartments

A condo also called a condominium is a building or complex of buildings that consists of individually owned units. What basically is a condo, a whole apartment complex, but each apartment is owned by an individual, rather than the whole complex being owned by a single person. Due to the Vancouver real estate market being such expensive when it comes to houses, condos are a really good choice that can save a lot of money. Condos are also good for people that like living close to the downtown or the center of the city and they don’t want to spend a fortune just to be able to live there. These types of the building became very popular lately as they are cheaper than a house, give you the freedom to be the owner of the housing unit, you always have access to great services and they also have decent prices.

When it comes to fees and costs, they will be similar to the monthly costs of an apartment, but instead, you have access to a lot of useful facilities. Every condominium has an association, so you can talk to them first and find out what are the monthly costs you have to pay and what are services you get instead. Some of them may include the utilities, such as electricity, heat, and water, and other amenities, such as membership to a shared gym.

The cost of buying a condo is different since they can be furnished or unfurnished and offer different facilities. As a general cost, you will find on most of the condos will include the maintenance of the yard, utilities, and common spaces. Some of them also offer gym spaces, garages, pools, or extra security. Condos tend to be a better option for a lot of residents in South Cambie since they are better for single people or single families and the extra facilities you get for you and for your family.

When it comes to prices, a condo is way cheaper than a house and that’s pretty obvious since you can’t have as much space as you have in a house and you don’t live in the same building with others. Apartments are a bit cheaper than condos, but we have to take into consideration that an apartment doesn’t offer many services, such as a private shared gym, pool, or other related services. Although apartments may be a little bit cheaper, it depends on the type of apartment too. For example, a condo can be found at the price of $680.000 with 1 bath and 1 bedroom and a total surface of 460 sq ft. It’s actually a really good price for a single adult condo.

Right now it might be one of the greatest times to buy a condo since some of them have dropped their prices a lot. One of the listings I found dropped $180.000, being listed right now at a price of $1.5 million. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a total surface of 1236 sq ft. It has 3 times more space than the $680.000 one, 2 more bedrooms, 1 more bath and it offers luxurious furniture and design. These types of homes are great for single families that would love to be close to the downtown, live in a nice house, and not spend a fortune f0r a house.

Besides the actual cost of buying a condo, don’t forget to consider the price of the monthly expenses, costs, and taxes. The best way to find out the actual price of monthly costs is to ask the owner. This is the best part about a condo: you will always talk directly to the owner of it, not to the real estate agents or other intermediary people. The owner will always know the exact cost for everything and he can even show you the costs the other tenants had.

Overall, I think that a condo is the better choice for a single-family or a single adult. It gives you more of what it means to own a property with fewer headaches.
