About Steveston Real Estate

Home to 15 fish canneries in the late 1800s, Steveston is a historic community located in the south west corner of the City of Richmond. Here, the mighty Fraser River meets the Pacific Ocean, creating a charming seaside village that delights both visitors and residents. Not only that, but it is also port for Canada’s largest fishing fleet, which consists of more than 600 vessels. Additionally, its rich history and beauty make it a great destination for tourists and locals alike.

Steveston, located in Richmond, is just minutes from YVR and a short drive from Vancouver. Bordered by Williams Road to the north, the Fraser River to the south, No 2 Road to the east, and the Strait of Georgia to the west, it consists of four distinct neighbourhoods: Steveston Village, Steveston North, Westwind and Steveston South.

Steveston Village

The Steveston Community Park is a 30-acre hub of activity that stands out in the community. It boasts a unique and expansive playground and waterpark, making it a popular destination for families. The park also houses the Steveston Community Centre, which offers a fitness centre and courts for indoor tennis, squash and racquetball. A remarkable feat of architecture, the Martial Arts Centre, is the first purpose-built Japanese dojo to be constructed outside of Japan. In recent years, the closure of the fish canneries has led to a significant amount of residential development, including the construction of several deluxe condominiums and townhomes.

Steveston Village offers locals and tourists alike a variety of attractions, such as:

    • Unique shops and restaurants

    • Scenic boardwalk

    • Beach access

    • Parks and playgrounds

    • Biking trails

Additionally, the Steveston waterfront is home to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery, an official National Historic Site built in 1894 that was the largest building of its kind and leading producer of canned salmon in British Columbia. All of these features make Steveston Village a desirable location to visit.

Garry Point Park is a must-see in Steveston Village, located right on the water’s edge with beautiful views of the South Arm of the Fraser River and the Gulf Islands. It is the perfect destination for a picnic, after-dinner stroll, or for taking in a sunset. With plenty of beach and waterfront access, Garry Point Park is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. When the sun shines, many people flock to Steveston to enjoy the great restaurants and cafes or purchase fresh seafood directly from the Public Fish Sales Float at Fisherman’s Wharf.

After-dinner stroll, an afternoon picnic, or watching the sunset – this is an ideal activity for any of these.

Steveston North is a residential area with many large property lots and roomy contemporary family homes, many with lush green landscaping. Residents of the area also have access to recently built townhomes and deluxe condominiums. Nearby parks such as Diefenbaker, McKinney, and Steves Park offer plenty of outdoor activities, including 4 sports fields, 3 ball diamonds, and a playground. Manoah Steves school is also located close by.

Steveston South, located east of the Village and below Moncton Street, is home to Imperial Landing Park, a great spot for a summer stroll and a peaceful sunset. The park offers a 1 km long boardwalk with piers, observation tower, and fishing artifacts, as well as decorative hanging baskets. Aside from the park, the area is home to luxury townhomes and condominiums, many of which have stunning Fraser River or pastoral views.

Residents of Steveston come together in a display of community spirit every Canada Day on July 1st to celebrate the nation’s birthday. At the event, guests can enjoy a parade, Japanese Cultural Show, Children’s Festival and more. However, the main attraction is undoubtedly the famous Steveston salmon barbecue, which features the grilling of over 1200 pounds of wild salmon filets over open fire pits.

Schools in the Steveston area that are part of the Richmond School District include:

    1. R.A. McMath Secondary

    1. Steveston-London Secondary

    1. Six neighbourhood elementary schools
