Galiano Island real estate

Galiano has houses and land available for sale.

Galiano was named after Dionisio Alcala, a Spanish explorer of the eighteenth century. He was the first to explore Canada’s westcoast in 1792. Our Island was inhabited for many years by Coast Salish peoples, including aboriginal peoples from the Penelakut Nation. Galiano, with a population of 1,100, offers small-town charm in a peaceful forest to beach setting. It measures 27.5kms in length and is only 6kms wide. This small, rural island is located closest to the Mainland. It has three commercial areas: Sturdies Bay, where the ferry docks, Georgeson Bay/Porlier pass Road intersection, and Montague Harbour. Camping is permitted in Montague Harbour Provincial Park as well as Dionisio Provincial Park. The second park is currently only accessible by boat. You can enjoy kayaking, sailing, diving, fishing, golfing, cycling, and other recreational activities. You can find hiking trails on Bodega Ridge and Mount Galiano, Bluff Park, and Pebble Beach Reserve.

Galiano is the sunniest and most wild of BC’s Southern Gulf Islands. It is also home to some of the best snorkeling in BC. Galiano, located between Vancouver and Victoria is the first stop on the ferry to Tsawwassen. Galiano, although close to the city is undeveloped and has tranquil forests, large Arbutus stands, and rugged sandstone beach. It is a long island with a narrow width of 6 km and a length of nearly 28 km. Beautiful broken island views, arbutus groves, and spectacular sunsets are all part of the southwest side. As you walk along the pebble- and sandstone beaches to the north, look out for orcas. The stunning views of Mt. Baker.

Galiano real estate

The town center is located on the island’s south side. You will find a bakery and hotel here, as well as a post office and gas station, and many other retail shops and restaurants.

Montague Provincial Park is located a third up the island. It boasts a beautiful beach, marina and campground, as well as a Pilgrime restaurant. Enroute magazine voted it Canada’s top new restaurant of 2015.

Dionisio is located at the North end of the island. This marine access provincial park has sandy beaches, tidal pool and unique standstone formations. The Bodega Ridge Trail, which runs along the spine of the island, is a must-see for hiking enthusiasts.
